Combustion process development for engine concepts with two-stroke low-pressure direct injection

The first series application of the 2-stroke LPDI (low-pressure direct injection) developed by FVT was presented to the press in 2014. The model presentation took place during the EICMA in Milan from 6 to 9 November 2014. The LPDI technology was developed in several successive projects between 2005 and 2012.

Originally, the technology was developed for 50 cm³ scooter engines (CPI - Hans Leeb GmbH) and then transferred for Husqvarna Motorcycles to a 300 cm³ Enduro motorcycle engine. In 2013 Husqvarna was taken over by KTM. Together with Hans Leeb GmbH and KTM Motorcycles, the 2T-LPDI technology was filed for the Houska Prize 2014 and was awarded € 10,000 as a top 10 finalist.

The project included the application of the Sherco 250/300 cm³ 2-stroke engine with the LPDI system. FVT completed the project in September 2014 and is currently going through the industrialization process at Sherco.

Sherco's 300 SE-R is the first direct-injected 2-stroke Enduro motorcycle and underlines the leading position of FVT's research area K&A in this area.
